Has anyone tried hypnosis for weight loss?
Question by lhtracey: Has anyone tried hypnosis for weight loss?
I’m not looking for a fast/quick way out. I’ve been eating well and exercising, but I was just wondering if these sessions have helped anyone. It’s such hard work to keep up with everything and if a little hypnosis might help, I’d be all for it! Has anyone tried it?

Tried it twice with two different practitioners. Didn’t work.

Of course being a hypnotist myself, I am going to say yes it can (NOT will).
The reason is quite straightforward. Weight loss begins in the mind, and if your thinking is conditioned to eat sensibly and be active, then logically physical changes will take place.
Of course it is not always that simple. One reason for this is that food nowadays is so messed up with, and there is so much misinformation, for example, we are told to consume vegetable oils to prevent heart disease, and yet heart disease has increased over the last 20 years.
Of course some hypnotherapists are better than others, and sadly many are a bit “new age” to be taken seriously. Yes it is not a quick fix, for me a customer must be focussed on doing 3 sessions with the option of a follow up between 3-6 months.
What I can definately say is that with hypnosis you are not going to get worse, you either stay the same, or get better, and I am pleased to say from my experience working with people, is that it is usually successful.
I should also point out that the weight loss gained is NOT my success, it is the success of the person wishing to lose weight. It is a bit like a driving instructor. They don’t “make” you drive, you are the one in charge of the car, but with the right guidance AND with the student doing the work, then though not guaranteed, the learner has a greater chance of success…..hypnotherapy follows the same principle.
Plus it is very relaxing.

Yes, I tried hypnosis for weight loss. What neither the therapist nor I realized is that I had profound psychological reasons for (a) needing to eat, and (b) needing to be large. The fact that I have celiac disease, of course, means that unless I’m on a special diet, overeating is a matter of survival to me.
So when the hypnotist told me to raise my right hand when my conscious and subconscious minds could agree on curbing my eating, I found myself rooted in my chair and unable to move. I physically could not raise my arm. I was in danger of remaining in the hypnotic trance for the rest of my life.
Finally, by a superhuman feat of will power, I took command of myself and said, “This is ridiculous!” in my own mind. I raised my arm, but I knew that my subconscious mind was not agreeing — it was still trying to hold my arm down.
Hypnotism can help. It can even work wonders, but your hypnotist has to know everything that is going on with you. I’d suggest consulting with a physician and a counselor first so that there’s no danger of being placed into a dangerous situation like I was.
